You know that feeling when you’re juggling a million things and you think, “If I just go faster, I’ll get through it all!”?

Yup, I’ve been there. Spoiler alert: it doesn’t work.

I’ve learned the hard way (too many times) that speeding up often just leads to crashing into walls—figuratively, of course. Usually.

There’s this myth that to get more done, you need to move faster, hustle harder, and sacrifice more.

But what if I told you the secret to being more productive is actually slowing down? I know it sounds backwards, but hear me out!

1. The Productivity Myth: Why Slowing Down Actually Works

I used to think if I wasn’t in constant motion, I was falling behind. If I wasn’t working through lunch, multitasking, and sprinting through my day, then clearly I wasn’t doing enough.

But here’s the thing: that mindset is exhausting. And worse—it’s ineffective.

When I finally embraced slowing down, I realized something wild. I started getting more done by doing less. By slowing my pace and taking mindful pauses, I wasn’t just ticking off boxes—I was doing the right things, and doing them better. Who knew, right?

2. Creating Space to Think Clearly

Have you ever felt like your brain is trying to run five marathons at once? That’s what overwhelm feels like to me.

When I’m trying to do five things at once, I’m really doing none of them well. But when I slow down and bring my full attention to just one thing, I get into this flow state where everything feels easier.

Mindfulness has taught me to be present, even in the busiest moments. Whether I’m writing, walking my dog, or even doing the dishes (okay, sometimes), being fully present helps me connect with the task at hand—and that focus boosts both my productivity and my happiness.

Slowing down doesn’t mean you need to drop everything and do yoga for an hour (though that would be awesome if you can). It can be as simple as taking a few deep breaths when you’re feeling frazzled or stepping outside for a minute to reset.
