The Hot Girl Walk is More Than A Trend - How To Make It Your Personal Reset

Ever heard of the “Hot Girl Walk”?

It’s the trend that's all about confidence, empowerment, and boosting your mood. But what if you could make it even better – tailored to fit your unique needs? Because when it comes to self-care, there’s no one-size-fits-all.

But first things first, what is the “Hot Girl Walk”?

The trend initially kicked off in 2021, aiming to blend fitness with self-confidence. The requirements are, if I may say so, pretty simple:

  • Walk 6 km outside

  • Listen to a motivational playlist

  • Think about three things:

    • What are you grateful for?

    • What are your goals, and how will you feel when you achieve them?

    • Reflect on your inner and outer beauty

Sounds great, right?

While, amongst all trends flooding the internet that are oftentimes questionable for their positive impact, this is for sure one that really improves your personal wellbeing - it is still a trend. And trends tend to evolve into a showcasing challenge, while the underlying benefits are slowly but surely forgotten.

Another problem with trends like this is that, while it’s good to have clear actionable goals to achieve, it’s not always catering to your best. We are not the same everyday, and our needs change depending on so many factors – surroundings, mood, hormones.

Walking is, without a question, beneficial in many facets – physically, emotionally and mentally. You’re outside, you’re active, you’re without distraction (because we don’t walk while scrolling on the phone, do we?).

So, how can we take the best out of the trend and improve it to something even better – your personal therapy walk for any situation?

Let’s talk about sound

  • If you need a motivational boost, go for that empowering playlist. Give yourself a pep talk (or listen to a podcast that does that for you) and walk in the rhythm of the sound. The walk is your stage.

  • If you need to ground yourself, listen to some calming music, your favorite playlist or participate in a walking meditation.

  • If you’re overwhelmed, skip the music. It is the perfect time to process your thoughts, reflect on your situation without overstimulating your brain with additional sensory input. Instead, balance yourself with listening to nature’s sound, be attentive to the rustling of leaves, the singing of the birds (Disney princess vibes) or people chatting in the city streets (you can do your walk anywhere).

Let’s talk about weather

If you think about the hot girl walk, you probably imagine yourself in a cute sporty outfit, with sunglasses and a baseball cap. While there’s nothing against a cute outfit, don’t let a rainy day be an excuse for not going on that walk.

There’s no bad weather, just inappropriate clothing.

And this is so true! A walk in the rain can be immensely refreshing, and relaxing because there’s not much going on outside – after all, many people use it as an excuse to not go outside. But not you – you know that there’s so much more about walking than the aesthetics. And let me tell you, you will get the Vitamin D also on a cloudy day.

What I implement to make it more meaningful

Bringing my camera on the walk

I realized that when I have a camera with me (or the phone – but no scrolling!), I am much more attentive to the little beautiful sceneries around me. Instead of just walking for the sake of it, I intentionally look around and “see”.

Now, don’t fall for the trap that you have to capture every moment – we still enjoy pure living here.

But it trains our mind to be more attentive to these details that otherwise slip through because we’re too busy thinking about what we will cook for dinner when we get home, how to solve that problem at work or why he didn’t respond to our messages yet.

And the best part – this transfers to our everyday life. We see so much more beauty everyday just because our brain got primed to recognize it.

Making it a daily habit in my mornings

It is proven that it lowers cortisol, which is naturally high in the morning. So I switched the bad habit of scrolling on the phone to a quick morning stroll around the block.

This allows to use this sensitive window - where we are very receptive to feeling overwhelmed and anxious – to boost our emotions with endorphins and lower cortisol naturally. Furthermore, it improves sleeping at night, because exposing ourselves to sunlight starts the countdown of our inner body clock.

Isn’t this amazing?

Maybe you should give it a try – I can highly recommend it.

So, no matter what you keep and what you ditch – this walk is yours. Make it to what you need.
